Accounting Manager, Operational Finance Policy Development

Reporting to the Vice President Finance, Retirement, the Accounting Manager, Operational Finance Policy Development is responsible for researching, developing and deploying financial/accounting policies in order to drive consistency and to mitigate financial risks and ensure compliance with Bill 198.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Developing and deploying financial/accounting policies that support the business strategy;
  • Prioritizing such development according to business strategy;
  • Liaising with Operations, Sales and Marketing, People, Business Services, Internal Audit and Information Technology to understand all necessary aspects of the required finance policies;
  • Liaising with Operations, Sales and Marketing, People, Business services, Internal Audit and Information Technology in order to establish and develop effective and relevant financial and accounting policies;
  • Developing policies and procedures based on need of the various stakeholders;
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are compliant with any and all applicable Acts, Regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Maintaining and updating policies and procedures as required;
  • Coordinating meetings for discussion and review of established and new policies and procedures as appropriate;
  • Obtaining buy in of finalized policies from relevant stakeholders;
  • Obtaining Corporate Policy Committee and CFO & EVP Finance and Administration approval;
  • Cascading to the defined user group/stakeholders, working with the Accounting Manager, Financial Training and other trainers as appropriate;
  • Communicating effectively with relevant stakeholders;
  • Aligning closely with Director, Internal Controls Compliance;
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 5-7 years in Accounting and Finance roles;
  • 2-3 years in Policy development and writing;
  • Related industry experience (preferred);
  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA) or equivalent work experience;
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and Canadian GAAP (required);
  • Knowledge of industry specific accounting principles (preferred);
  • Knowledge of various provincial funding models and policies relating to assisted living and long term care health sector;
  • Knowledge of Tenant Protection Act, Long Term Care Homes Act and similar legislation in other jurisdictions;
  • Strong computer skills – ERP Software, Microsoft Office (required);
  • Highly effective and professional communication skills in both their verbal and written exchanges (essential);
  • Self-motivated, creative and innovative;
  • Fluency in English & French, in both written and verbal communication, is strongly preferred.
