Vice President, Training and Development

This position is responsible for the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of the leadership and Employee development portfolio (Chartwell “U”), in support of Chartwell’s vision, mission, values and strategic direction.  This position is responsible for leading a team of training professionals engaged in developing and delivering training programs to support our stakeholders in Finance, Information Technology, Information Systems, Sales, Marketing, People, and Operations to meet their training goals and strategic initiatives. 

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A degree in an area related to leadership, people development and/or business.
  • CHRP designation preferred
  • In depth experience in Human Resource and Organization Development;
  • Experience developing and implementing HR and OD programs and strategies;
  • Extensive experience as a leader; and
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in HRIS development.
  • Knowledge of human resources practices and procedures
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to negotiate, problem solve and resolve conflicts
  • Ability to multi-task, conduct research and develop a sound business case
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff
  • Ability to develop and facilitate individual and team interventions
  • Computer literate with skills in Microsoft Office
  • Leadership and customer service skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships
  • Tact, judgment, adaptable and reliable
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Bilingualism is an asset

  • Provides leadership and direction in the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of “Chartwell U” strategic initiatives.
  • Leads, directs, and coaches a group of training professionals who are responsible for the development and delivery of training programs on behalf of our corporate stakeholders.
  • Monitors performance and provides development opportunities to the Chartwell “U” team.
  • Participates as an integral member of the leadership teams involved in driving Chartwell’s strategic direction forward. 
  • Provides leadership, coaching and mentoring support to Chartwell employees. 
  • Provides leadership and direction to support the development and implementation of people programs and strategies
  • Provides leadership and direction in the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of “Chartwell U” strategic initiatives.
  • Leads, directs, and coaches a group of training professionals who are responsible for the development and delivery of training programs on behalf of our corporate stakeholders.
  • Monitors performance and provides development opportunities to the Chartwell “U” team.
  • Participates as an integral member of the leadership teams involved in driving Chartwell’s strategic direction forward. 
  • Provides leadership, coaching and mentoring support to Chartwell employees. 
  • Provides leadership and direction to support the development and implementation of people programs and strategies
  • Creates and maintains the Chartwell “U” brand as part of Chartwell’s strategy to attract and retain staff.
  • Acts as the Chartwell “U” representative at external events such as meetings and negotiations with external vendors, speaking and participating at industry related conferences, creating and maintaining strategic alliances, etc.
  • Ensures are training and development programs are conducted in accordance with the appropriate legislation and collective agreements.
  • Develops and implements administrative systems to track and monitor Chartwell “U” programs and training activities.
  • Monitors internal trainers and training programs to ensure quality programs are developed and delivered in accordance with the standards set for Chartwell “U”
  • Provides regular progress reports.
  • Develops proposals for new programs.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with staff at all levels and in all areas of the organization;
  • Analyzes organizational effectiveness and develops interventions and adhoc programs designed to address specific issues or concerns;
  • Creates and facilitates programs to address the needs of the organization and develop effective leaders
