Senior Director Information Systems

Reporting to the Vice President, Information Technology, the Senior Director Information Systems will oversee the design, development, administration and support of all core business systems in support of Chartwell business processes. The incumbent will do so in compliance with all Chartwell policies and control frameworks and will be accountable to the IT Security Analyst in matters of governance and audit. The Senior Director Information Systems will work closely with the Business Project Management Office and other disciplines within IT and will support the operational and functional areas of the company that are his/her key internal customers. Systems within the scope of the Senior Director’s responsibility will include a combination of on-premise, SaaS and cloud-based solutions and may involve both in-house and outsourced consultant and support personnel. The successful candidate will utilize his/her unique combination of business process knowledge and solid IT technical background to maintain, develop and deliver responsive, secure and reliable business systems that are supported with a high standard of customer service.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • 15 or more years of progressive Information Services experience working in a systems development and support capacity;
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing enterprise-scale software solutions from software selection through to go-live;
  • Demonstrated project management expertise and experience in managing outsource service providers;
  • A university degree in a relevant field of study;
  • Knowledge of system integration and reporting methodologies;
  • Thorough understanding of IT general controls in a public company setting as well as of information security best practices;
  • Solid IT technical foundation and aptitude ;
  • Industry experience is considered a definite asset;
  • Effective communication skills that include strong written, oral and presentation abilities;
  • Pragmatic approach with a view to efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the administration of systems;
  • Self-motivated, creative and innovative with the resources at hand, with strong attention to detail;
  • High standard of customer service excellence, “Roll up the sleeves” style of leadership;
  • Ability to balance conflicting objectives to derive the best solution;
  • Sound analytical skills and strong team player attitude;
  • Availability to travel (10%);
  • Successful candidates must provide a current criminal record check.

  • Directing and leading the team responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, administration and support of the business systems;
  • Enthusiastically leading the team, developing direct reports and all team members skills and talents;
  • Effectively communicating with the business in respect of all related information systems matters;
  • Acting as the point of escalation for production issues and analysis when required;
  • Employing strict SDLC protocols in the maintenance of production systems;
  • Strictly adhering to all IT general controls, supporting compliance reporting and directly participating in a disciplined change management framework as it relates to the administration of Chartwell’s business systems;
  • Assisting in the preparation of business cases, requirements gathering, project budgets, as required;
  •  Information systems budget responsibility;
  • Creating reporting strategies to monitor and track system availability, responsiveness and reliability;
  • Providing support and expertise for software selection and implementation projects;
  • Working closely with Business Project Management Office in the implementation of new solutions;
  • Recommending optimization strategies for the continuous improvement of business systems in the areas of usability, security, reliability, business continuity and responsiveness
  • Interfacing with key software vendors and service providers as required;
  • Capacity planning of information systems in conjunction vendors and third-party personnel;
  •  Staying abreast of emerging technologies;
  • Other duties as assigned.
