Corporate Accountant, Consolidations

Reporting to Manager, Financial Reporting, Chartwell Retirment Residences is looking for a Corporate Accountant, Consolidations.
The ideal candidates will possess:
  • Minimum 3 years experience in preparation/auditing of consolidated financial statements of large publicly accountable enterprises;
  • 5+ years of accounting experience;
  • A post secondary degree in the business/finance is required;
  • A professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) or equivalent work experience;
  • Hands on experience in preparation of complex consolidations and working papers (required);
  • Knowledge of accounting information systems (preferred);
  • Hyperion Financial Management or other consolidation and reporting software (preferred);
  • Excellent Excel (must have) and Microsoft Word skills (required)
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS (required);
  • Strong knowledge of public company financial reporting (required);
  • Knowledge of the real estate and healthcare specific accounting principles (preferred);
  • Good communication and presentation skills (required);
  • Irregular hours and evening work during peak periods will likely be required.
Practising our corporate values of R.E.S.P.E.C.T., the successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following
  • Preparing of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and notes thereto;
  • Preparing monthly consolidations for internal purposes;
  • Preparing of legal entity financial statements;
  • Assisting with the accounting for acquisitions and divestitures as required;
  • Completing of impairment tests for intangibles and long lived assets;
  • Assisting in quarterly public company reporting process, including preparing various materials for the MD& A and other investor relations materials (press releases, conference call slides and scripts);
  • Preparing financial information for other securities filings as required;
  • Assisting in research and analysis and implementation of new accounting standards as required;
  • Assisting in special projects as required;
  • Liaising with the auditors during quarterly public company reporting process;
  • Developing strong working relationships with Operations Finance and Tax groups to ensure effective collaboration during quarter end reporting process;
  • Contributing to process improvements and automation initiatives;
  • Assisting with annual budget and quarterly forecasts for areas of accountability;
  • Ensuring accuracy and completeness of consolidated financial statements and notes thereto;
  • Ensuring accuracy and completeness of legal entity financial statements and notes thereto, as required;
  • Ensuring quarterly public company filings are accurate, complete and comply with the regulatory requirements;
  • Assisting in preparation of the Annual Information Form, Management Information Circular, Annual Report, etc;
  • Assisting in the preparation for offering of Trust securities (equity, debentures, etc.), preparation of prospectuses, as required;
  • Completing monthly accounting entries for convertible debentures and equity accounts on a timely and accurate basis;
  • Analyzing consolidated accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy of consolidations;
  • Working with Transfer Agent, maintain accurate records in respect of Units;
  • Supporting implementation of Hyperion Financial Management to transition current Access and Excel consolidation models into Hyperion;
  • Identifying financial and operational process improvements and implementing improvements after receiving appropriate approvals;
  • Performing other duties as required.
