Director, Payroll

Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Director, Payroll is responsible for the oversight and the strategic direction of the Payroll department.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Required experience in management positions in a large public company: 7-10 years
  • Experience in leading business process improvements and systems conversions.
  • Experience with ADP PCPW/EZ Labour preferred
  • Related industry experience (Seniors Housing, Real Estate, Hospitality, Health Care)
  • Strong computer skills – Payroll Software, Microsoft Office (required).
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls (Bill 198, Sarbanes-Oxley)
  • Good understanding of collective agreements, employment standards and payroll regulations
  • Strong project management capability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, creative and innovative
  • Bilingual (preferred)

Practising our corporate values of R.E.S.P.E.C.T., the successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee the payroll function for our Long Term Care and Retirement Operations
  • Overall responsibility for accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of reporting as it relates to the Payroll department.
  • Identifies and recommends areas for improvements in the payroll departments and provides oversight to implementation of these improvements.
  • Key member of implementations of new systems.
  • Oversight and review of payroll to ensure residences meet all financial and regulatory requirements in this respect.
  • Development and maintenance of policy and procedures related to payroll compliance
  • Monitor legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to regulatory reporting, Federal and Provincial payroll legislations.
  • Oversee required regulatory filings including, but not limited to T4s, EHT.
  • Communicates professionally and effectively with Senior Management, government agencies, third party clients and team members.
  • Liaison with internal and external auditors, assisting in the quarterly reviews and annual audits as it relates to Payroll.
  • Ensuring compliance with Corporate and External Auditor's control requirements.
  • Ensuring acquisitions or dispositions are integrated on a timely basis.
  • Leads development of annual business plans for department and participates in strategic planning for People team.
  • Motivate team and lead by example.
  • Other duties as assigned.
