Chartwell Retirement Residences is a publicly traded Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) whose units are traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol ‘CSH.’   A REIT is an operating entity that owns and operates real estate assets such as land and buildings in order to earn income from its assets which is then used to pay a monthly distribution to unit holders.  The business operates as a trust, rather than a corporation.

Chartwell was formed on November 14^th, 2003 when the following three companies merged through its Initial Public Offering (IPO):

• Chartwell Care Corporation 
• Alert Care Corporation
• JBG Management Inc.

Since that time, Chartwell has grown through acquisition of both established as well as new state of the art seniors housing properties in both Canada and the United States.  We currently strive to grow by about 2-3 homes per year through development of new homes.

As a result of this rapid expansion,Chartwell Seniors Housing REIT currently owns or manages approximately 180 seniors housing properties in North America which over 26,000 seniors call ‘home.’

In Canada, Chartwell employs almost 13,800 people in our owned and managed seniors homes.These people have expertise in a variety of areas including nursing and care provision, management and administration, food services, activation, social work, sales, housekeeping and laundry, as well as service and maintenance.

Chartwell’s Corporate Offices

Chartwell’s main corporate office is in Mississauga with two additional Canadian corporate locations in Vancouver and Montreal.  Our US properties are managed by Brookdale Senior Living which has its head office in Brentwood, Tennessee.
